15 June – 20 July 2026 | SkyCity SitewideMatariki returns to SkyCity with a vibrant celebration of reflection, remembrance, connection and renewal. Join us beneath the stars as we honour the Māori New Year through immersive activations, live entertainment, interactive experiences, kai, art and community-led storytelling across the SkyCity precinct.
Inspired by the three core components of the traditional Matariki ceremony, this year's celebration invites all Aucklanders and visitors to come together in the spirit of Matariki.
Te Tirohanga
The ViewingMatariki is a time to look to the skies, reflect on the past and welcome the new year ahead. Experience SkyCity transformed with illuminated art installations, interactive storytelling and special Sky Tower lighting displays inspired by the Matariki stars. Look out for Sky Tower projections created in collaboration with well-known local artists, and Atrium activations throughout the precinct.
Te Whakamahara i ngā Mate
Remembering Those Who Have PassedMatariki is also a time to pause, remember and honour loved ones who are no longer with us. Visitors and SkyCity staff alike are invited to contribute to our shared "Sky of Stars" installation located in the Atrium. Add a star in remembrance of someone special and take a moment to reflect alongside the wider community.
Te Whāngai i ngā Whetū
Feeding the StarsFood plays an important role in Matariki, symbolising abundance, nourishment and hope for the year ahead. Celebrate with an incredible line-up of Māori and Pasifika kai experiences across SkyCity, from bustling night markets to curated dining events inspired by the whenua, ngahere, awa and moana.
★ Sky of Stars Installation ★
Add a star to our shared "Sky of Stars" installation in the SkyCity Atrium in memory of someone special. This meaningful activation creates a collective space for memory, reflection and connection throughout the Matariki season. Open to all visitors and SkyCity staff throughout the celebration period.
Matariki Night Markets
Explore a vibrant mix of Māori and Pasifika food vendors serving up delicious flavours from across Aotearoa and the Pacific. Alongside the kai, discover stalls from Māori enterprises supported through SkyCity Community Trust partnerships.

Sky Tower Yoga – Matariki Sunrise Yoga
Embrace a time of reflection and look forward to the New Year with a guided yoga session high above the clouds. With 360-degree views over Auckland's CBD, welcome the New Year with some reflection before finishing off with some Kawakawa tea included with your ticket.
Matariki Dinner Experience
Te Moana-nui-ā-Kiwa | The great connector of all Polynesia.
Be welcomed into an evening of kōrero, waiata and the rising of Matariki, the constellation that has guided our ancestors across Te Moana-nui-ā-Kiwa for generations, the same stars that charted the great migration, and the ones rising now.
This July, join us in the meeting of two living traditions, honouring the Māori New Year through the pacific style of sharing, together around the table in the spirit of gathering.
